The Other Nigella

Nigella ❤️ For me an image comes to mind of the sexy & seductive kitchen goddess who has graced our TV screens for the past 15 years.
However, these little nigella seeds don’t quite fit this description of Nigella, but sharing traits of being dark and full bodied, wow does this Nigella get overlooked!

Also known as black cumin, black seeds or Kalonji they go as far back as The Old Testament and apparently could cure ‘anything but death’ and were found in Tutankhamen’s tomb. Impressive right?   Known for their high levels of antioxidants you’ll see them on Turkish bread, curies, pickles and used in a similar way to cumin or oregano.

I sprinkle them on salads, rice, poached eggs, avo, rice paper rolls. or where ever a little punch of flavour is required.   Their intense color also visually adds to any dish. For a little seed they have the most unique distinctive flavour (in a good way) something like the herb oregano.

Have you tried them?
